NEW MARTINSVILE CRYSTAL CLEAR REARING HORSE BOOKENDS

Offered here is an exquisite pair of elegant New Martinsville Glass rearing horse bookends. They were made circa the 1940's and are just stunning! They are made of crystal glass and measure approximately 7.5" tall by 5.5" long. The are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or damage. What a beautiful addition to your library they would be!

There were three prolific makers of rearing horse bookends during the mid century and all three are discussed in the books, "Glass Animals Including Animal & Figural Related Items" by Dick & Pat Spencer and "Glass Animals & Figurines" by Debbie and Randy Coe. The most notable differences and the easiest to tell are as follows... The LE Smith version is the ONLY one with a beaded mane. Both the Fostoria and New Martinsville versions have a cropped mane but the Fostoria horses' nose is slightly upturned at the tip whereas the New Martinsvile version is tucked in and called a "Roman" nose. Also the New Martinsville version has the head and neck tucked closer to the body than the Fostoria version. These would make a great gift for your favorite horse lover!
